Less is more. Start simple, allow to extend/grow bigger. The BetterSearch
Firefox extension, for instance, achieves some nice stuff, provided that you
want it. Making it the default is a case of shovelware.
The only thing Google must change is their habit of delivering an ugly mess
that they call HTML, in order to boost speed. They are a terrible model in
that regard. It's like feeding someone fries, which is basic and substanceless
food, but also serving it off the floor.
