I used Knoppmyth to build a MythTV box out of a 2GHz P4 (Socket 478 400MHz
FSB). I installed a SkyStar2 DVB-S receiver Card as well as a WinFast
2000/XP TV Capture Card. The SkyStar2 is set up to receive Galaxy 10R
programming. It's mostly old stuff like Mission: Impossible from the last
60s/early 70s as well as some trash TV I enjoy (Eye For An Eye).
The DVB-S card makes recording really easy because the system doesn't do
any MPEG encoding. This is because the DVB stream is already MPEG encoded.
The only thing the box is really doing is retreiving the Transport Stream
and pulling out the relevant Program Streams (Video and Audio) and storing
them to Disk.
My Hardware:
2GHz P4 (400MHz FSB)
Intel Desktop Motherboard (Onboard LAN and Audio)
nVidia GeForce Ti 4400 (I wonder if my Matrox G400 would be a better card)
120GB Hard Drive
Technisat Skystar2 DVB-S Card
36" Ku Band Satellite Dish
0.4dB Dual port Linear LNBF
Winfast 2000/XP Card (Conexant CX2388x)
Here's my lspci:

02:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801DB PRO/100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 82)
One day, I"ll buy a new machine in a small case and only use the DVB-S
card. This will be placed conveniently under the TV and become my
satellite receiver.
