You don't need all the Debian CDs to install Debian, just a net-install
image. SO long as you have a working net connection, just stick in the Cd
and boot, it will download what you need. The CDs provide all the apps and
also source code for those who require it.
And there are plenty of other distros that suit older hardware. Something
like Zenwalk or Vector would be a good choice
