Verily I say unto thee, that Roy Schestowitz spake thusly:

There seems to be some confusion here. The blogger (David Tome) states
that "All that remains of the original plans to provide Linux support is
a scored out reference to their 2006 press release."
If you look at the page with that announcement you'll see that it does
indeed have the May 18, 2006 statement scored out:
http://opensource.creative.com
However, there is a newer entry above that which states:
"April 30, 2007 -- Creative plans to make proprietary (closed source)
drivers available for the X-Fi series of sound cards. SEE Soundcard
Support for updated details. These drivers should have full support for
ALSA (playback, recording, mixer, MIDI, synthesis) and OpenAL 1.1 (with
EAX effects)."
Now the date of the blogger's article is May 11, 2007. I find it
difficult to believe that Creative would commit to a project, then give
up after only 11 days.
Somebody has their wires crossed.
PS. The Creative forum with customers asking for Linux drivers now
extends for 52 pages, and with Dell on the brink of releasing Ubuntu and
SuSE systems it would be very odd if Creative ignored the obvious surge
in demand that there will be (and is now) for Linux drivers:
