West Yorkshire police have been using VIPER (Video Identity Parade 
Electronically Recorded) for a number of years now (since 2003). It is a 
GNU/Linux system made for them by "sagitta" & IBM. They tried WindowsNT & 
Solaris, but when it came to large scalability, it seemed they fell down. 
GNU/linux can also be incrementally changed to meet demand. VIPER is now 
used widely throughout UK police forces:-
