OK, new standard installation of Linux. Set up just days ago while I was away
(it's mainly automatic)... never added any special software... no, it was just
the default 1-CD installation, which is intervention-free... I plug in my 7
year-old scanner... hit alt+f2, xsane... oh, well... what do you know? It's
already installed and it's such a great application... wait 5 seconds (it's a
slow PC)... xsane has already detected the scanner automatically... no need
for driver installation even.
So, let's summarise what has been involved.
- Plug in scanner to USB port
- Click on the 'scanning' thingie
That's it.
Linux has become so easy that it's scary. If you can't afford the time to
tinker and if your time is worth something, then do yourself a favour and just
stick to something that works. Try Linux.
