You should have seen those "dinosaurs" MULTICS ran on, those systems where
*huge*
A single *CPU* contained around 70 PCBs, each with an size of around 12x12"
and full with 74xxx type chips
I have actually done maintenance on one of those few sites running it.
That system had 2 CPUs, 2 System-Control-Units (containing the RAM) and two
I/O-processors just for the actual computer itself
Using MULTICS was totally different from using any other mainframe OS at
that time
