Enterprise Innovation with Open Source
,----[ Quote ]
| Open source provides a way for CIOs to invest in new system development
| without coding themselves into a corner. According to Mike Milinkovich,
| executive director of the Eclipse Foundation, enterprise users of technology
| are catching on to something the ISVs have known for a while now -- that if
| you develop in an open source model and other companies adopt what you
| develop, you have a higher chance of longevity in the code base.

Here Comes the Open Source Metaverse
,----[ Quote ]
| That thought occurred to me as I was attending the “Open Source Virtual
| Worlds” panel at last week’s Virtual Worlds 2008 conference in New York. Like
| Netscape, Linden Lab last year open-sourced its viewer code, which led to a
| number of unofficial versions, some of which have been reverse engineered to
| run on non-Linden servers. And at least one of them already looks
| significantly better in some respects than Linden’s official viewer.

Open source sex toys nearly crash servers

| An odd thing happened at the office the other day -our sister-publication
| Computerworld’s internet servers were brought to the brink of crashing when a

|
| To prove my theory I searched the phrase ”open source sex toys„ on Google and
| voilà the Computerworld story led the results (see image below).
|
| Now Computerworld editor Rob O’Neill will tell you the story was a hit
| because it was picked up Slashdot, but I’m not entirely convinced…

It's probably just the Slashdot effect.
