Higher Secondary Board to catch up with FOSS revolution

| The Gujarat Higher Secondary Education Board has decided to incorporate a
| module on open source software in the Class XII syllabus for computers to be
| effective from June 2009. The otherwise e-savvy Gujarat government had missed
| the Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) revolution till now.
|
| Kerala was the first state in the country to make the use of GNU/Linux
| platform mandatory in its state level SSLC IT examinations. The SCERT of
| Kerala, in association with the Free Software Foundation of India is also in
| the process of writing the Class IX syllabus dealing with open and free
| software.
