Semantic Sense for the Desktop
,----[ Quote ]
| Those working on the project, coordinated by the German Research Center for
| Artificial Intelligence (DFKI), have been toiling for three years to create
| software that can spot meaningful connections between the files on a
| computer. Nepomuk's software is available for several computer platforms and
| now comes as a standard component of the K Desktop Environment (KDE), a
| popular graphical interface for the Linux operating system.

Switching to KDE
,----[ Quote ]
| There are a few reasons why I'm trying out KDE. Firstly I've really only got
| experience of GNOME, my KDE knowledge is limited to using Knoppix a few years
| ago, so when people ask KDE questions I am unable to help. I'd like to change
| that. Secondly there's a lot of negative things said about KDE, some by
| myself, and I think a bit of education might help me to understand KDE
| better, and possibly be a bit less critical. Also I'd like to help KDE to be
| better, and as an 'outsider' to the KDE community I may have a slightly
| different perspective on things. Finally it seemed like a good idea for a
| regular segment on the podcast we make. Time (and listener feedback) will of
| course decide that one.

Gwenview, Nepomuk and rating
,----[ Quote ]
| Gwenview has always been file-system oriented, but with the advance of
| Nepomuk associating semantic information to your files is becoming more
| ubiquitous.
|
| I started adding support for Nepomuk in Gwenview since KDE 4.1. It still
| needs a lot of work, but it is becoming quite usable now. In this article I
| am going to present how you can easily rate your images in Gwenview.

Testing Fedora 10 KDE Edition
,----[ Quote ]
| My experience with Fedora has not been bad at all. I think a big reason for
| that is that my laptop has practically no need for proprietary drivers. The
| intel graphics card open source driver has gotten quite good and provides
| painless and efficient compositing out of the box. In fact, every piece of
| hardware, including sound, works out of the box. So, that leaves me free to
| compare distros by their features and ease of use. So what have I found in
| using Fedora 10 KDE version?
|
| [...]
|
| Of course, both of those lists will probably grow as I use the distro more.
| But, using it exclusively for about 4 days now that is what I have found.
| Overall, I am finding it a pleasure to work with.

Fedora 10 Review
,----[ Quote ]
| Fedora is really aggressive about keeping up with bug fixes and security
| updates over the lifecycle of their products. With Fedora 9, they updated
| (and will continue to update) KDE every time the KDE folks did. As a result,
| the KDE that ships with Fedora 10 is very similar to the KDE that you have on
| a fully updated Fedora 9 system. This is a good thing. After KDE came out
| with the 4.1.x series I switched back to KDE and have been fairly happy ever
| since. That isn't to say that all KDE users are happy with KDE 4 but I find
| it to be quite usable now.
