I don't know how Apple have approached this, but certainly on most 3G
phones and also things like the Nokia web tablet, there are a range of
viewing options built into Opera and also Minimo now which allow the
user to make most sites surprisingly usable.  My biggest problem with
most phones, iPhone included, would be that the aspect ratio is the
wrong way around for a lot of things...

Worse, though, is that the iPhone is 2.5G/Edge only, which is very very
dated.  There are far superior 3G products around now.
