Who told you that reading a license is boring?

| In the last 24 hours I implemented Licenses validation, whitelisting, masking
| and database support to Entropy. When I started, I tried to find out if
| someone (maybe crazy like me?) had already made a list of free (as in freedom
| and/or beer) software licenses. I didn’t dig too much and decided to have a
| look at /usr/portage/licenses. OMG, 811 licenses to read! Yeah, I read them
| all and I’ve found something really funny.

The Microsoft licensed are very Redmond-centric, but have a look at the many
texts he extracted. Just wow!

Meanwhile, REM embraces 'open-source' to stay relevant and even thrive:

R.E.M., Open Source, and Staying Alive When an Industry Shifts

| Having emerged from the early-'80s Amerindie movement, an assemblage of
| rock'n'roll bands with a combination of optimism and hardheadedness that
| mirrored the very best of the open source movement, R.E.M. knows it can't
| compete with what's at the top of the charts.

Hollywood Goes Too Far to Protect Content

,----[ Quote ]
| I first found out about the problem on New Year’s Eve, when I went to log
| into my account. When I tried to launch a streaming movie, I was greeted with
| an error message asking me to “reset” my DRM. Luckily, Netflix’s help page on
| the topic included a link to a DRM reset utility, but when I went to install
| the program, I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this warning.
