IcedTea 1.5 Adds PowerPC Java Port

,----[ Quote ]
| The IcedTea project added a PowerPC Java port (both 32 and 64 bit) of
| OpenJDK. IcedTea 1.5 now also tracks the mercurial repo, provides better
| GNU/Linux integration by using standard system libraries (libpng, libjpeg,
| zlib, giflib) and can be bootstrapped with the free gcj/ecj/classpath
| toolchain.

ESBs Finding Their Place in the Mix

,----[ Quote ]
| An enterprise service bus for various flavors of integration makes a ton of
| sense to me. Deciding later whether to consolidate ESBs, while learning what
| works best on a more granular level, follows how IT often evolves. It
| certainly aligns with open source infrastructure use adoption patterns.

Facets of Open Source Part II

,----[ Quote ]
| Small projects
| remain controlled by their respective developer(s) while larger ones adapt
| using some sort of control mechanism. The cost savings do take time, there is
| the initial cost of deploying, adapting and hiring/training resources - but
| the savings exist.

Iced Tea

| Java is a popular programming language used both on the desktop and the net.
| Until recently users who wanted to use just free software have had to
| struggle with partial support for Java, but now that Sun have begun freeing
| their Java implementation the way has opened for free software developers to
| create an entirely free implementation. This free Java, IcedTea, was shipped
| by default with Fedora 8, and so we talked to ThomasFitzsimmons, the lead
| developer behind this feature.

Apple's Leopard rejects latest version of Java

,----[ Quote ]
| Leopard may have 300 new features, but it is unable to run Java 1.6, even
| though that same version is available for both Windows and Linux. That has
| taken some Mac users by surprise, including some on this user forum on
| Apple's website.
