Verily I say unto thee, that Roy Schestowitz spake thusly:

I've been reading quite a bit on WGA (screenwriters) strike recently,
and I think it's quite shocking the extent to which the suits rip off
everyone including their own artists. It's not really new though, but
it seems that the corruption infamously detailed by Courtney Love [1]
7.5 years ago is still rampant in the entertainment industry today.
This issue of media moguls point-blank refusing to remunerate artists
for digital content, is especially reprehensible. I didn't know about
screenwriters being affected by this same scandal until recently [2].
Is it any wonder that ordinary people steal digital content with such
wild abandon? One has a hard job convincing people that stealing from
thieves is wrong ... or even theft at all.
Artists like Radiohead and NIN have the right idea. Just dump the fat
greedy middle-men altogether, and collect revenue directly from their
fans, on a voluntary basis. They have proved that this business model
works, no doubt much to the chagrin of the fat greedy middle-men; the
same type of business model that has worked so well for Free Software
looks set to become the De Facto for the entertainment industry too -
and it's about time.
I take exception to the author's use of the word "communist", though.
Must everything that challenges corrupt business practises be slurred
with stereotypes? I suppose to those who seek to protect that corrupt
politics, yes - it must.
