....give his work away for free?
He already has. Consider his website,
http://www.schestowitz.com. This website's bandwidth is
not paid by you or me, but by him. Any work thereon is
easily browsable -- and liftable using tools such as wget,
though in all fairness anyone with half a brain would
notice that another person's website has the exact same
stuff, and start to wonder.
Who cares?
I can get shit for free too by stepping in the right place when crossing
the street.
I'm talking about when/if he gets a real job...
Schestowitz invents a way for cars to get 10000 miles/gallon.
Will he give it away for free?
Will he give the method away for free?
No way....
He will trot right to his lawyers and protect it.
And if somebody else finds another similar method to do it investing
their time and energy, they're fucked. Even if theirs is better.
Not necessarily.
This is a very simple point that you are missing.....
Roy, Mark, [Homer] etc expect companies like ATI, Nvidia, AMD etc to
release their source code and in effect reveal their proprietary ideas.
Thats not what we're talking about.
That's what I'm talking about and I'm the OP of the thread..
What are you talking about?
See OP "patent rights".
Look...this is a simple concept.....
Be it a patent, copyright, etc Roy Schestowitz will fold like a cheap
camera and protect his work but yet presently he seems to expect others to
share their work with little or no protection.
A good example is Nvidia or ATI.
Why on earth would they want to share their source code with the Linux
community?
Thats their choice. And if Schestowitz wants to do the same thats his.
You seem to be saying its OK for nvidia or ATI but not OK for
Schestowitz. That's hypocrisy.
