SCO Group: Its future is all used up
,----[ Quote ]
| The SCO Group got bad news in court last week. Not an unusual event for this
| company, but I wish the need for such events would finally go away for good.
|
| I've now been writing about SCO for five years -- how time does fly when you
| have someone to despise. In my first column about SCO's decision go into the
| lawsuit business rather than having to do all the hard work of making a
| product that someone might want to buy, I thought that someone would just buy
| the slime off. I was wrong -- I guess there is some truth to the punch line
| of the old joke that "there are just some things a lawyer won't do." I guess
| IBM's lawyers could not stomach the idea of rewarding such repulsive
| behavior.

SCO: where business is corruption and corruption is business. Microsoft follows
a similar route, not only invests in it.

Darl McBride remains clueless
,----[ Quote ]
| McBride's statement contradicted the just prior testimony of SCO SVP Chris
| Sontag, as well as the company's internal memos from 2002, which concluded
| that SCO's own software examinations had not found any UNIX code in Linux.
|
| Perhaps McBride was confused about which lawsuit he was in court testifying
| about.

Quick Take: An Insane Investment in SCO
,----[ Quote ]
| Assuming that the legal system hasn't gone entirely bonkers yet, the
| investment also sets Red Hat (NYSE: RHT) up to follow its lawsuit against
| SCO to its logical conclusion, after the IBM suit fizzles out. If I were Red
| Hat, I'd send Stephen Norris a thank-you note. Seriously, guys -- what were
| you thinking?

The Goldfarb Declaration - Updated: MS Statement
,----[ Quote ]
| According to the Declaration, Richard Emerson was not the only
| Microsoft employee Goldfarb was dealing with in connection with the
| BayStar investment in SCO. He mentions by name two others, from two
| other departments.

| "There you have it. At least a third of SCO's entire market
| capitalization, and their entire current cash reserves, is payoffs
| funnelled from Microsoft. Their 10Qs reveal that every other line of
| cash inflow is statistical noise by comparison. The brave new
| SCO source business model is now clear: sue your customers, shill
| for Microsoft, kite your stock, and pray you stay out of jail."
