OpenSUSE 11.0 beats Vista, Leopard and Ubuntu hands down

,----[ Quote ]
| Yes, this mother of all Linux distributions will be responsible for the utter
| demise of Microsoft, Apple and will create an immensity of spare time for all
| maintainers of other distributions.

Fun with openSUSE 11.0

| I still have a lot of investigating to do, however, in the interim I think
| that if I had to choose between Ubuntu and openSUSE, Ubuntu would be the
| winner - familiarity is a key factor.

OpenSUSE 11: nice kid, bad custodians

,----[ Quote ]
| More good news: you can still remove Mono, the infamous attempt to clone
| Microsoft's .NET development environment, and all its insidious dependencies
| without breaking anything in OpenSUSE. I had to remove a total of 39 files,
| both applications and libraries, to get it off my system. Anyone who is
| planning long-term usage of the distribution would be well advised to remove
| Mono as it could lead to problems down the line.
|
| OpenSUSE has all the applications that an average desktop user needs. It is a
| distribution with an excellent pedigree. If only it had better custodians.

The Novell factor need to be taken into account as well. When you download and
use OpenSUSE, you help Novell and -- by association -- Microsoft also.
Microsoft gets paid for Novell's distribution of Free software.

If you support From software, you are advised use something else. If Free
software gets taxed by Microsoft, that's no good.

OpenSUSE developers should fork or disengage from Novell. They sure have
talent. Shuttleworth, for example, has already invited them to join him team.

Feeling the heat at Microsoft

,----[ Quote ]
| If I ask you who is Microsoft's biggest competitor now, who would it be?
|
| Ballmer: Open...Linux. I don't want to say open source. Linux, certainly have
| to go with that.
