ASUS Reveals Eee PC Desktop Variant

,----[ Quote ]
| Hard specs on the devices are hard to come by, but ASUS notes that the device
| is much smaller than typical than typical desktops and that it has "good
| enough performance". Other niceties include Hi-Fi Stereo and Dolby Digital
| Live support. Also noteworthy is the fact that the EP20 will soldier on with
| the Eee PC Linux operating system (which is based on Xandros Linux).

Maybe Microsoft will try to give them XP for free. Vista will never run on
these anyway (too 'fat', incompatible, privacy-unaware and buggy).

Linux is Part of Asus’s Long Term Plan

,----[ Quote ]
| Asus announced three new Linux products.
|
| I would even go so far to say that if Asus keeps up its support of Linux, it
| may be the company that is credited with bringing Linux on the desktop to the
| masses.

2007's most important IT lesson is spelled with an Eee

,----[ Qote ]
| The Eee shows too just how out of date the 'is Linux ready for the desktop?'
| argument is. Yes it is. Anyone can pick up an Eee with its standard Linux
| distro - or with a number of freely available alternatives - and just use it.
| That alone revitalises the 'is this paid-for operating system value for
| money?' question.

I Love Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| I’m writing this post from my little EEE PC on a tiny table in my bedroom -
| the only room in the house with any furniture. As you can see in the photo,
| we are doing a little Home Improvement - new flooring. In the meantime, our
| world is total chaos. I’ve re-discovered my biceps - mostly because they are
| sore from moving all our stuff out of the house - and I’ve re-discovered my
| love of Linux.

Microsoft can't even give it away

,----[ Quote ]
| To sweeten the pill, there is also a considerable price incentive in buying a
| basic portable with GNU/Linux installed as opposed to one with Windows XP,
| which not only costs about 30 per cent more, but also has the nerve to
| require more storage space and memory. The situation gets even worse for the
| Vole when it phases out XP for Vista in June, bringing basic storage
| requirements, just for running the thing, up to a whopping 15 GB. Free
| browser-based online services like Gmail and Google Docs make life even more
| arduous for the Vole, allowing users to get by quite happily just using
| Firefox.

ASUS preps $500 'iMac killer' Eee PC desktop

,----[ Quote ]
| The computer builder also says it will build a headless desktop, the E-DT,
| which will at first use a Celeron but then switch to the Shelton platform.
| Most details are unavailable, though the price should range between $200 and
| $300 and is being pushed towards the $200 mark. A third system known as the
| E-TV will combine a basic Eee PC platform with a 42-inch LCD TV and should
| cost about $200 more than a comparable TV that ships without such features.

Little Linux Laptops: Build It and People Will Come

,----[ Quote ]
| Verdict
|
| You can hardly go wrong in getting a notebook computer for less than $400.
| Any one of these units represents a highly compact and usable computer for a
| very reasonable price. The prevailing wisdom in computing has always been ‘Go
| smaller, pay more’, but these latest Linux laptops are battling that
| philosophy nicely. But then Linux has always gone against the wind.
