Foes of Open Source (Trend Micro) Hit by It Also:

Hackers Attack Trend Micro

,----[ Quote ]
| Researchers are still not sure how the attackers are managing to hack these
| Web pages, but the pages all seem to use Microsoft's Active Server Page (ASP)
| ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
| technology, which is used by many Web development programs to create dynamic
| HTML pages. A software bug in any of those programs is all the attackers need
| to install their malicious code.

I've cleaned up my Web site. And for trolls who spreading BS, thousands of
sites including big ones like ZDNet are affected.

Hackers launch massive IFRAME attack

| But Danchev was more pessimistic that the attacks could be halted
| quickly. "To sum up -- it's a mess," he said.

Before accusing individuals, look at the Web as a whole. And if you're using
Windows, be careful of pretty much /ANY/ site you visit. The press is filled
with articles about what became a plague and nobody yet knows how many sites
are really affected.

If the trolls want to use this as a weapon of smear, they could smear a helluva
lot of Web sites, just as we could slam Trend Micro (see below).

Boycott Trend Micro

| The proprietary software company Trend Micro has filed a patent infringement
| lawsuit against Barracuda Networks. They claim that Barracuda is violating
| their patent by distributing the free software antivirus program ClamAV.
|
| We should avoid using any proprietary software, but companies that use
| software patents for aggression are the lowest of the low.

Trend Micro patent claim provokes FOSS community, leads to boycott

,----[ Quote ]
| Eben Moglen of the Software Freedom Law Center is aware of the case, and is
| considering a patent re-examination request or another intervention in the
| case.
|
| Contacted by Linux.com, Barracuda's Drako acknowledged the array of reactions
| by saying, "We at Barracuda want to extend our thanks to the tremendous
| number of individuals who expressed support for our defending the use of
| ClamAV free and open source software, as well as to the community members
| that have submitted prior art."
|
| If Trend Micro hasn't already, it is about to find out that the case is about
| free software after all.

Call for action: Boycott Trend Micro

,----[ Quote ]
| Anti virus developer Trend Micro accused Barracuda Networks of patent
| infringement but what they really did was attacking the users of ClamAV free
| anti virus software with a bogus patent.
