The book is about Microsoft /having/ to evolve, which it hasn't done
successfully after years of trying (now it wants to devour Yahoo and go into
debt in the process).
Is it possible that CNET Networks bought ZDNet? I looked at the footer. Either
way, the old-age press (e.g. Ziff Davis) dies for the same reason proprietary
software suffers (yes, it does, despite overall market expansion). Information
and code are disseminated for free.
