Re: Linux and Astronomy

> Huh? You don't keep you older machines after you upgrade?

Nope. I've had one older machine with a P3 which I passed on to my
cousin's daughter. They are not as well off as I am and it's normal
here to help out poorer relatives.

Yes. I save my money to buy these things. As I said, we need to
prioritize if we really want something. I can't always buy both the
scope accessories and computer accessories all at once. But I did save
up for the laptop because I needed it when I observe out of town. And
I do plan to upgrade my aging P4 desktop to a Core Duo in a few
months.

I was just voicing out my frustration. I was at the ASCOM group a
month ago asking for Linux support and they all ganged up on me. A
troll would complain and do nothing. I have done a lot, including
contacting the developers and publishers of astronomy software. I

I haven't posted anything about Microsoft's site.

Nah. It was Amarok that converted me to Linux. Its music sounds much
better than anything Windows could offer and I love the Wikipedia
support.

>From my previous post, I mentioned that I am currently the super-
maintainer of SkyMap Pro for the Wine project and I have filed a few
bugs on it:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1520

http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13039
http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13040

Keeping a watch on how SkyMap Pro works in Wine, testing on each new
version of Wine and keeping old versions of SkyMap Pro for has worked
for my advantage: SkyMap is now Silver, and I can use it for
everything except telescope control.

I am doing my part. I do not know how to program in C++ but I'm doing
everything else I can.

So a person who has done most of what he can do to improve the state
of astronomy software in Linux deserves a few moments of frustration.
I'm not like a lot of people who complain first before doing anything
to help.
