Fedora 9 Gives Ubuntu a Run For Its Money

,----[ Quote ]
| After playing with the release candidate for a week or so I’m happy to report
| that Fedora 9 has made some significant strides and gives Ubuntu a serious
| run for its money when it comes to user-friendliness.

Red Hat lives on the edge with Fedora 9

,----[ Quote ]
| To address KDE 4 demand--roughly a third of Ubuntu users prefer it to the
| more widely used GNOME--Ubuntu programmers took a Fedora-like approach.
| They're working on a KDE 4 version of Hardy Heron, but it doesn't come with
| the support promised regular Ubuntu.

Tip of the hat: Fedora 9 officially released

,----[ Quote ]
| Important architectural features—such as the PulseAudio sound server and the
| PolicyKit secure privilege escalation system—that were first included in
| Fedora 8 are now integrated in a more complete and pervasive way.

New Fedora 9 makes waves by emphasizing contributors

,----[ Quote ]
| "And that's what we really want to do. Fedora as a whole is very passionate
| about creating opportunities for people do something in open source to make
| an impact, no matter what walk of life they come from -- whether they're a
| software developer, a marketing professional, an artist, a musician, a
| writer, whatever the case may be. So I think that's a really apt metaphor for
| us of making waves."

Fedora 9 - Why it’s so awesome

,----[ Quote ]
| KDE4
|
| Although I do not use the KDE aside from a few choice apps, I think it would
| be rather rude and inappropriate to neglect the awesome efforts of the Fedora
| KFE SIG in making Fedora 9 the first major distribution release to feature
| KDE4
|
| As I am not as familiar with this awesomeum as I am others, I will leave the
| absorption of the full details as an exercise for the reader (note: their
| release annoucement page is…yes, that’s right…awesome…).

Fedora 9 - an OS that even the Linux challenged can love

,----[ Quote ]
| The new KDE look, dubbed Oxygen, is very slick, some might even say
| beautiful. Fedora is the first major distro to ship with KDE 4 enabled by
| default, but thankfully KDE 4 does support older applications that haven't
| yet been ported. Such apps won't be able to take advantage of the new
| features, but at least you can use them until new versions are released.
|
| Fedora 9 also marks the first release under Paul Frields, Fedora project
| leader at Red Hat, who took over for longtime Fedora maintainer Max Spivak
| earlier this year. Fedora has also revamped its board slightly making the
| distro a more community-managed affair. The majority of the Fedora board is
| now made up of community elected members.
