What's Red Hat Doing in the Virtualization Business?
,----[ Quote ]
| Even before Red Hat bought the virtualization company Qumranet, with its
| Linux KVM (Kernel Virtual Machine) platform, Red Hat had made it clear that
| it was moving into virtualization in a big way. At its annual Red Hat Summit
| in June, the Linux powerhouse announced that it would be deploying its
| Embedded Linux Hypervisor, oVirt, which is based on KVM in its server line.
| This lightweight, embeddable hypervisor currently enables users to run run
| Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Windows VMs on Linux.

Red Hat sprints past ESX on VM running
,----[ Quote ]
| Red Hat claims it can run five virtual machines (VMs) for every three that
| VMware's ESX runs in the same server hardware. Qumranet technology also
| enables it to run more Windows virtual desktops than VMware, too.
|
| At a journalists' roundtable in London this week, Benny Schneider, Qumranet
| CEO, said his - now Red Hat's - company's KVM (kernel-based virtualisation
| machine) hypervisor runs 52 VMs in a physical server, in which ESX can host a
| maximum of 35 VMs. Citrix Xenserver is worse: it can only host 30.

Oracle's Ellison Withheld E-Mails in Suit, Judge Says (Update2)
,----[ Quote ]
| Oracle Corp. Chief Executive Officer Larry Ellison deliberately destroyed or
| withheld e-mails and failed to preserve tape recordings that should have been
| turned over to lawyers for shareholders suing him, a judge ruled.
|
| U.S. District Judge Susan Illston in San Francisco said yesterday that the
| e-mails, as well as recordings of interviews for a book about Oracle founder
| Ellison called ``Softwar,'' were willfully withheld. Ellison and Oracle knew
| the material was potentially relevant to claims that they made false
| statements about the company's 2001 second-quarter financial results and
| problems with a software product, Illston said.
