As Sarkozy Pushes Three Strikes, He Pays Up For His Own Copyright Violations
,----[ Quote ]
| Now, you might hope that this would cause Sarkozy to rethink his stance on
| copyright infringement. Instead, it looks like his political party has simply
| agreed to pay up and make the issue go away, while still pushing for the
| three strikes law. It sounds like they paid about 30,000 euros, which is a
| lot more than the single euro that Sarkozy's party initially offered (yes,
| seriously). No word on whether or not this counts towards the number of
| strikes on Sarkozy's internet connection.

RIAA settles for $7,000 after 4 years pursuing NY mum
,----[ Quote ]
| For a while she became something of a poster child for the file-sharing
| community. In January 2006 an online news service collected money for
| Santangelo's defence fund as part of its “Fight Goliath” campaign to
| help “victims” of the RIAA.

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich ‘Pirates’ His Own Album
,----[ Quote ]
| It’s been nearly nine years since Lars Ulrich became one of the most vocal
| opponents of Napster and the generation of file-sharers it spawned. Not one
| to speak about something he has no experience of, Ulrich has just admitted
| downloading his own album, Death Magnetic, and it was “bizarre”.

Music Executive Ridiculed at Pirate Bay Trial
,----[ Quote ]
| Laughter filled The Pirate Bay trial here Wednesday when John Kennedy, the
| chief executive of the International Federation of Phonographic Industries,
| testified that people would have purchased every music track they got free
| file sharing.
|
| Kennedy answered an affirmative "Yes" to Pirate Bay defense attorneys when
| asked whether that was true. Bursting laughter could be heard from the audio
| room beside the courtroom where the trial's sound was being broadcast.

British Government Violates Copyright
,----[ Quote ]
| As much as I utterly despise the entire premise of Intellectual Monopoly,
| this is about violating the principles of a Free License, and if it's good
| enough for the British government to violate our civil rights in the name of
| Intellectual Monopoly, then it's good enough for the Free World to protect
| its "property" (in fact Freedom) too…
