What the smeg are you waffling on about now?
Microsoft does not have a centralised repository.
You get a microsoft update, the only things that get updated are microsoft
software. Not adobe, not coral or apache or firefox... microsoft.

Which in most instances is just the core OS and perhaps microsoft office.
All the other software installed has to be updated separately.

With linux, EVERY piece of software in the distribution, accounting for
thousands of packages gets updated from the SAME centalised source.
Every time a security update is flagged on any piece of software in the
distribution, it will be available for install at the click of a button.
(on all the major distributions such as mandriva/suse/ubuntu/debian at
least)
