KDE Community Improves User Experience with KDE 4.2

,----[ Quote ]
| KDE 4.2 (Codename: "The Answer") Brings Improved Desktop User Experience,
| Applications and Development Platform
|
| January 27, 2009. The KDE Community today announced the immediate
| availability of "The Answer", (a.k.a KDE 4.2.0), readying the Free Desktop
| for end users. KDE 4.2 builds on the technology introduced with KDE 4.0 in
| January 2008. After the release of KDE 4.1, which was aimed at casual users,
| the KDE Community is now confident we have a compelling offering for the
| majority of end users.

Hands on: testing the KDE 4.2 release candidate on Windows

,----[ Quote ]
| Ars takes the KDE 4.2 release candidate out for a test drive on Windows. The
| popular open source desktop environment has moved beyond Linux and is
| becoming increasingly robust on other platforms. Even KDE's Plasma desktop
| shell is now Windows-compatible.

KDE 4.2 RC Released for Final Testing

,----[ Quote ]
| January 13th, 2009. The KDE Community today announced the immediate
| availability of "Cilense", (a.k.a KDE 4.2 Release Candidate), the only
| planned release candidate for the KDE 4.2 desktop. Cilense is aimed at
| testers and reviewers. It should provide a solid ground to report last-minute
| bugs that need to be tackled before KDE 4.2.0 is released. Reviewers can use
| this release candidate to get a first look at the upcoming KDE 4.2 desktop
| which provides significant improvements all over the desktop and
| applications. It is not recommended for everyday use, however.

KDE 4 rev 802150: Work in progress

,----[ Quote ]
| KWin with Wobbly Windows
|
| Kwin features a new visual effect known to most of you from Compiz: the
| Wobbly Windows. Only a few days ago the settings panel for this effect had
| tons of detailed options. Most of these options have been disabled now, the
| only thing that can be configured is the window deformation level while in
| motion. This seems more appropriate for a common user since the number of
| configurable settings was overwhelming before. One minor flaw that I noticed
| in KWin Wobble Windows is that the window shadow is not properly deformed (it
| does not adjust to the current shape of the window).
