Omega: Fedora For The Rest of Us

,----[ Quote ]
| The Fedora Project is one of the most popular Linux distributions and has
| been ever since Red Hat announced its creation in 2003. It is a free and open
| source operating system which came about as a merger between some of their
| commercial products. It was to be a community driven project, built entirely
| on free software and would be a test bed for Red Hat Enterprise Linux
| offerings. Even though it remains a community distribution, numerous Red Hat
| employees are involved and help set the direction of the project.

Announcing Omega 10

,----[ Quote ]
| I am pleased to announce the general release of Omega 10, a Linux based
| operating system and a community Fedora Remix for desktop and laptop users.
|
| It is a installable Live CD for regular PC (i686 architecture) systems.
| It has all the features of Fedora 10 and a number of additional
| multimedia players and codecs.  You can play any multimedia including
| MP3 music or commercial DVD's out of the box.

Omega 10 Live CD Beta: Fedora With Added Multimedia

,----[ Quote ]
| I wanted to run a couple of other multimedia tests on a more powerful desktop
| machine - it has an AMD Sempron 3800+ processor and 1.5GB of RAM with two DVD
| drives. On this machine Omega 10 loaded much quicker, the sound and screen
| resolution (1280x1024) were perfect and my wired network was automatically
| configured.

Omega 10 Desktop Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| The Red Hat community engineer behind the Fedora Games and Fedora Xfce media
| spins, Rahul Sundaram, had announced the release of Omega 10 Beta this past
| weekend. Omega is a desktop/mobile Linux distribution that is based upon
| Fedora but includes packages from the Livna RPM repository. The Omega 10 Beta
| release is roughly equivalent to the Fedora 10 Beta to be released tomorrow,
| but integrates multimedia support not found in Fedora along with delivering
| other added functionality.

Fedora 12 Picks Up Another Batch Of Features

,----[ Quote ]
| Going back to May before the release of Fedora 11, features that were planned
| for Fedora 12 (the release that's codenamed Constantine) began to get laid
| out. Among these features were LVM enhancements, replacing nash/mkinitrd with
| Dracut, and using Empathy as the default instant messaging program. With time
| more features have come about for Fedora 12, such as re-basing the desktop
| environments to KDE 4.3 and GNOME 2.28, updating the kernel, etc. Over the
| weekend though, the Fedora Project Wiki was updated to reflect a whole batch
| of new features that are now planned for Fedora 12. Below are some of these
| new features.

Fedora 12 to be named Constantine

Try installing F12 Alpha early.

,----[ Quote ]
| According to this posting to the fedora-test-list by Liam, there’s going to
| be some installation testing for the Fedora 12 (Constantine) Alpha candidate
| next week, on Wednesday July 29. This is a chance to shake out some of the
| new features in the Anaconda installation application that have come in over
| the past couple of months. The more testing we can get on the installer
| early, the more bulletproof we can make it for our final release by the time
| code is frozen in the fall.

Reviewed: Fedora 11

| Our verdict: Other distros are in danger of being outbuntu'd by this freedom
| loving, Gnome-centric star performer.9/10.
