It's a metaphor, not an analogy.

Authors use them to make their writing more interesting or entertaining.

He's talking about much more than software.

In the case of software, though, the metaphor depicts Stallman's feelings.
But rather than just spinning metaphors, Stallman acted (strongly) on his
feelings, and now the whole world can enjoy an ever-expanding cornucopia of
Free software.
