He's eccentric.

"Crazy" is when your actions are antithetical to your goals, like
spending a lifetime creating Free Software - only to allow people
to fill it with binary blobs, then lock it up with DRM.

He has the courage of his convictions, which is precisely why the
pragmatists have so much contempt for him. He serves as a constant
reminder of their severe spinal deficiency.
