Copyright law threatening

,----[ Quote ]
| It is increasingly apparent that modern copyright law is utterly and completely
| incompatible with the right to privacy.... What has changed? Before home
| computers, compact discs and Internet file sharing, it was conceivable for
| copyright laws to be enforced in a manner that did not bring the state to any-
| one's doorstep. If there was an illegal copy of a book in a bookshop, one could
| report it to the authorities. If someone brought a video camera into a theatre or
| a concert, they could be readily seen.
|
| Given today's technological realities, this is no longer the case.... the problem
| lies in the fact that current copyright laws are completely unenforceable unless
| the government or industry groups start to read every e-mail and analyze every
| form of online communication done by citizens.

An âextremely obscure issueâ

,----[ Quote ]
| The example at issue (used by Crosbie to illustrate something he calls
| âIntellectual-property nihilismâ) goes like this:
|
| Crosbie is contracted to write a particular piece of software, and does so,
| setting specific conditions â how much heâll be paid, etc â required before heâll
| release it.
|
| A burglar breaks into Crosbieâs house, and steals âthe programâ. (Note the
| equivocation, which weâll get to later.)
|
| At issue, is what punishment â if any â does the burglar get?
|
| 1. According to Crosbieâs (hypothetical) âIP Nihilistâ, the burglar is guilty
| only of breaking and entering, OR at absolute worst, the theft of physical
| property â the USB key or Hard Drive on which the program âresidesâ.

The Price of Justice

,----[ Quote ]
| If you believe that denying a fair trial to around 5 million people in this
| country is wrong, maybe it's time to join the Pirate Party?

Pirate Party UK Officially Registered

,----[ Quote ]
| The UK Pirate Party has been officially registered at the Electoral
| Commission and is hoping to follow in the footsteps of its successful
| counterpart in Sweden. With all the recent controversy surrounding
| anti-piracy legislation and lawyers going after alleged file-sharers, the
| party has become necessity.
