Flickr adds support for OpenStreetMap machine tags

,----[ Quote ]
| The Flickr developers have announced that they have
| added support for OpenStreetMap (OSM) machine tags to
| their photo sharing site. Each object, like a building,
| that OSM finds on its maps is assigned a number known
| as an Element. These elements are; nodes â single
| geospatial points, ways â ordered interconnections of
| at least two nodes and relations which group nodes,
| ways and even other relations together.

Sen. Durbin Proposes $15 Million in Grants for Open Textbook Creators

,----[ Quote ]
| Grant-eligible teaching materials must be both "free as
| in freedom" and "free as in beer." S. 1714 provides
| that the "full and complete digital content of each
| open textbook" must be "made available free of charge
| to, and may be downloaded, redistributed, changed,
| revised, or otherwise altered by, any member of the
| general public."

Desktop Flickr Organizer for GNOME users

,----[ Quote ]
| If youâre wondering how to organize your Flickr sets offline as well as your
| tags and comments, there is a way! Download and install Desktop Flickr
| Organizer. It helps you do the following:
|
| * Upload images - you could already edit its attributes: description,
| title, tags, privacy, sets, etc.
| * Manage your sets. You could even add new ones. This is one thing I
| canât seem to do with Postr. With just a few drag and drop choices and
| synchronization you could easily update your sets. Sounds great doesnât
| it?
| * Edit tags, titles, descriptions, privacy settings and licenses. If you
| uploaded everything already and forgot the stories behind the pictures,
| you could add them later.

Flickr Uploaders for Linux: Secretive, But Not Endangered Beasts

,----[ Quote ]
| Flickr is almost like Xerox, or Kleenex, in that its name is in some ways
| inextricably linked to the service it delivers. There are many other photo
| sharing sites, of course, with similar (or perhaps even superior) features
| and options. Maybe it's because it is one of the first services that's
| managed to grow, add features, and consistently stand out from the others, it
| is often the first service people try, and the one many ultimately choose to
| continue with.

FlickrFS for Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| Flickrfs is a virtual filesystem which mounts on your linux machine like any
| other partition. Once mounted, it retrieves information about your photos
| hosted on your flickr account, and shows them as files. You can now easily
| copy photos from your local machine to this mount, and it will automatically
| upload them to your flickr account. Similary, you can copy the files from
| your mount to your local machine, and it will download your images from
| flickr.

The Linux way to Flickr

,----[ Quote ]
| Flickr contains more than 15,000 pictures tagged with "Linux." Flickr
| can help introduce Free Software to non-geeks in a fun andn
| on-intimidating way ("See Mom? We're just like everybody else!").
| Many Flickr users have already done just that, showing off their
| FOSS-related talents in many fields.
