Asus Eee PC 1008HA Linux source code now available

,----[ Quote ]
| The Asus Eee PC 1008HA is a thin and light
| netbook that weighs just 2.4 pounds and
| measures just an inc thick. It was the first
| Asus netbook to be feature the new âSeashellâ
| style design. And itâs currently only
| available with Windows XP, even though Asus
| was a pioneer in putting Linux on netbooks.
|
| But this weekend Asus did something
| interesting. The company posted Linux source
| code for the Asus Eee PC 1008HA. In fact,
| there are 5 different downloads, ranging in
| size 299Mb to 488MB. I have no idea what the
| difference is between one and the other, and
| Iâm not entirely sure whatâs contained in the
| files yet. But if I had to guess, Iâd say
| that Asus is preparing to launch a version of
| the Eee PC 1008HA that runs Moblin Linux.

Open Source Eee PCs in October, Chrome OS Netbooks Coming

,----[ Quote ]
| Awesome news from Engadget about the open source future of the next
| generation of Eee PCs. Their 'spies' have uncovered information that the
| first Moblin-running Eee netbooks will be in stores come October. Asus, the
| Eee PC manufacturer, is apparently considering making open source OSes an
| option for all their netbooks in the future.

Updated EEE Linux OS for EEE PCs (700, 701, 900, 901, 1000H etc)

,----[ Quote ]
| ASUS never rolled much needed updates for the EEE PCs that ran their Xandros
| Linux OS. No upgrades were given to the (poor) users of the EEE 700-series
| which were forced to use old version of Firefox (v2). Folks at XEPC.org have
| unveiled version 1.7 of the EEE PC OS that is compatible with EEE 700, 701,
| 701SD, 900, 900A, 900SD, 901, 904HD, 1000 and S101.

Asus Eee PCs in USA Schools: A First-Hand Report

,----[ Quote ]
| The 901 Linux model has an 8.9" screen, weighs about 2.5 pounds, and has a
| 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 20 GB Solid State Drive, Linux,
| and a 6 Cell Battery with about 4-6 hours of battery life. Those seemed to me
| to be the right features for elementary and middle school education (high
| school students would probably want a slightly bigger screen and keyboard).
| The price - currently $275 retail on Amazon and presumably cheaper for a
| large order purchased through a distributor - is pretty good too.
