Open source software needs marketing

,----[ Quote ]
| There is a need for greater promotion of the
| use of open source software for information and
| communication technology (ICT)-based teaching
| and learning.
|
| Professor Kannan M Moudgalya of the Indian
| Institute of Technology, Bombay (IIT-B),
| highlighted this on Monday. Moudgalya, who
| heads the Centre for Distance Engineering
| Education Programme (CDEEP) at the IIT, was
| delivering the keynote address at the launch of
| kPoint, a software solution for interactive
| learning and training.

Desktop Linux needs salesmen!

,----[ Quote ]
| The fact is that there are many projects and
| organizations devoted to maintaining and
| improving Linux, there are a few
| organizations devoted to the promotion of
| Desktop Linux, but there are almost no
| organizations devoted to the sales and
| advertising of desktop Linux.

Linux Has No Marketing, But What if it Did?

,----[ Quote ]
| Many users of netbooks don't need, say, Microsoft's Office apps
| running. I use a netbook at home--and at events--for writing, web
| access, and e-mail. I can use Linux or Windows, so why not use the
| platform that is free of security problems? That would make for a
| good advertising campaign. Unfortunately, it's only an imaginary
| campaign.
