Pentoo Linux for Penetration Testing - Review and Commentary

,----[ Quote ]
| Pentoo linux is a Gentoo-based live CD with a
| selection of apps and tools designed to perform
| penetration testing. They recently released
| their 2009.0 version and we thought we'd take
| it for a spin and share our findings.

Exherbo Install Process

,----[ Quote ]
| So basically, if you can install Gentoo, with
| or without the handbook, you can install
| Exherbo. Granted at the moment Iâm installing
| in a VM but that shouldnât make much
| difference. Itâs just easier for me to start
| over. Though I havenât so far. On the same hand
| though I donât recommend starting with the pre-
| made VM on the Exherbo website. The one for
| VirtualBox at least was so outdated I couldnât
| get paludis to work properly to save my life.
| No matter what I did it just kept bombing
| because packages had invalid tags on the end of
| the names. Apparently paludis 0.3x.x.x doesnât
| like having âbeta1â or ârcâ on the end of your
| package ID.

| Pentoo Linux is a Gentoo-based Linux
| distribution that runs as a Live CD or Live
| USB. Pentoo has been designed to provide a
| penetration testing and security assessment
| solution through the use of Nessus and
| Metasploit. Pentoo uses the Enlightenment
| window manager, is optimized for Pentium III
| architecture, and supports package modularity
| like Slax.

Exherbo Over Twice as Stable as Gentoo: A Totally Objective Study

,----[ Quote ]
| Potential users often ask whether Exherbo is stable. To test this, I decided
| to reinstall everything on my Gentoo desktop and my Exherbo laptop.

Review of Exherbo Linux (From A Userâs Perspective)

,----[ Quote ]
| Exherbo is a Linux distribution led by a small team of opinionated
| developers. Itâs lean, to say the least, but when they give you a solution
| for something you can believe itâs well engineered and that it does that task
| well - nothing more.

Never heard of Exherbo? You will in the future

,----[ Quote ]
| It's really not that we don't want users or developers - it's just that the
| time for that hasn't come yet and I wish people writing articles and
| commentaries about Exherbo would understand that or at least ask us about our
| intentions before spreading these misconceptions any further. Hopefully I've
| made it a little more clear now.

Announcing Exherbo!

,----[ Quote ]
| Open source is said to be about scratching your particular itches - and I've
| been working my butt off for the last several months along with a small,
| select team of developers doing just that.
| All our hard work have so far resulted in a very experimental linux
| distribution that's definitely not ready for users yet (or even developers)
| but does have quite a few interesting ideas and features.

Version: GnuPG v1.4.9 (GNU/Linux)
