Ubuntu 10.04 Already Shortens The Boot Time
,----[ Quote ]
| For Ubuntu 10.04 in fact they would like a 10
| second boot time for Intel netbook hardware.
| Not only are they speeding up the boot process,
| but they are also working to beautify the boot
| process with Plymouth (video). For this article
| we checked out the boot performance with a
| Samsung NC10 that had an after-market OCZ SSD
| and 2GB of RAM along with a stock Dell Mini 9.
| Starting off, below are the Dell Mini 9 boot
| chart results for clean installations of Ubuntu
| 9.10 and then Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1.

First Look at Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1
,----[ Quote ]
| During the development of Ubuntu 9.10 I got
| used to running the development version on my
| netbook. I like installing updates every few
| days to see new improvements be added (and
| donât depend on my netbook to get work done),
| so I installed Ubuntu 10.04 âLucid Lynxâ
| Alpha 1.
|
| My netbook is an Eee PC 901. Everything works
| out of the box with the latest versions of
| Ubuntu. I use the Ubuntu Netbook Remix, but
| there doesnât seem to be an alpha release of
| it available yet so I installed the normal
| Ubuntu desktop. I downloaded Lucid Lynx Alpha
| 1 and created a live-USB system using USB
| Startup Disk Creator.

Ubuntu's Lucid plans
,----[ Quote ]
| In April the Ubuntu developers will
| release Lucid Lynx, the next version of
| the popular Linux operating system. Also
| known as Ubuntu 10.04, Lucid Lynx will be
| the third long term support (LTS) release
| from Ubuntu and is likely to have a strong
| focus on stability and security and will
| be geared at appealing to enterprise users
| and hardware makers. Ubuntu releases new
| versions every six months with LTS
| releases supported for five years on
| servers and three years on desktops.

Plymouth Running On Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
,----[ Quote ]
| For those looking to play with Plymouth on
| Ubuntu right away, it's as easy as sudo
| apt-get install plymouth when running on
| the Ubuntu 10.04 development branch.
| Yesterday we installed Plymouth on an
| Ubuntu Lucid box and recorded the video
| below.
