Making 10.10 a perfect 10/10 - Evolution

The X.Org, Mesa Plans For Ubuntu 10.10

,----[ Quote ]
| The talk at the Ubuntu Developer Summit
| surrounding the X.Org plans for Ubuntu 10.10
| just wrapped up. Compared to the Ubuntu 10.04
| LTS release, Ubuntu 10.10 should provide a
| much more recent and up-to-date graphics
| experience.

Btrfs May Be The Default File-System In Ubuntu 10.10

,----[ Quote ]
| Earlier this week we reported that Ubuntu has
| plans for the Btrfs file-system in 2011 and
| 2012 by providing support for installing
| Ubuntu Linux to a Btrfs file-system. This
| information was based upon documents coming
| out of the Ubuntu Developer Summit in
| Brussels, but it turns out that Canonical may
| actually deploy Btrfs this year. Not only to
| provide an installation option within the
| installer for Btrfs, but to make it the
| default file-system.

Tracking The Performance Of Ubuntu 10.10

,----[ Quote ]
| With the development of Ubuntu 10.10
| (codenamed the "Maverick Meerkat") getting
| started and the Ubuntu Developer Summit
| coming up in just a matter of days, we have
| re-launched the Ubuntu Phoromatic Tracker
| to monitor the performance of Ubuntu 10.10
| on a daily basis.
|
| We originally launched the Phoromatic
| Ubuntu Tracker back in March that began
| tracking Ubuntu's performance on a daily
| basis late into Lucid's development cycle,
| but a package upgrade a few weeks into it
| had borked the installations. We have now
| loaded up clean installs of Ubuntu on the
| test systems that are now tracking the
| Ubuntu Maverick repository, albeit so far
| is just some updated GCC packages.

Shooting for the Perfect 10.10 with Maverick Meerkat

,----[ Quote ]
| Our mascot for 10.10 is the Maverick
| Meerkat.
|
| This is a time of change, and weâre not
| afraid to surprise people with a bold move
| if the opportunity for dramatic
| improvement presents itself. We want to
| put Ubuntu and free software on every
| single consumer PC that ships from a major
| manufacturer, the ultimate maverick move.
| We will deliver on time, but we have huge
| scope for innovation in what we deliver
| this cycle. Once we have released the LTS
| we have plenty of room to shake things up
| a little. Letâs hear the best ideas,
| gather the best talent, and be a little
| radical in how we approach the next two
| year major cycle.

Ubuntu 10.10 to be codenamed Maverick Meerkat

,----[ Quote ]
| Ubuntu 10.04 is a long-term support
| release, which means that the focus during
| the current development cycle has largely
| been on stabilization and refining the
| existing technology. Shuttleworth says
| that we can expect to see a return to
| experimentation in the 10.10 release, with
| the potential for some radical changes.
|
| Some of the most important goals include
| delivering a new Ubuntu Netbook Edition
| user interface, improving the Web
| experience, boosting startup performance,
| and extending social network integration
| on the desktop. Shuttleworth also hopes to
| advance Ubuntu's cloud support by
| simplifying deployment and making it
| easier to manage cloud computing
| workloads.
