X-Plane Follow-up

,----[ Quote ]
| During the past few weeks I've continued to
| work on getting X-Plane to function well on
| my Core i7 Ubuntu 10.04 box . It has been a
| long journey, and I've learned many things.
| As of now, I have my joystick hat button
| working with Jhat, and I have frame rates
| that vary from 30 to 60 fps while I'm flying.

X-Plane as a RC Flight Simulator

,----[ Quote ]
| I've recently switched entirely to Ubuntu
| Linux as my primary operating system. Phoenix
| Flight Simulator has been my primary sim for
| the last few years, and it only runs under
| Windows. This got me searching for a solution
| to a very big problem. In the meantime, I'd
| been looking for a replacement to Flight Sim-
| X for Linux, and that is when I found X-
| Plane.
|
| As far as flight simulators go, X-plane is
| pretty far advanced. However, for an RC fligh
| simulator it still lacks a few things. I
| tried a trainer, and a 3d airplane,

X-Plane 9 on Linux

,----[ Quote ]
| X-Plane contains subsonic and supersonic
| flight dynamics, allowing users to predict
| the flight characteristics of the slowest
| aircraft to the fastest. X-Plane includes
| thirty-five aircraft on its master disk,
| spanning the aviation industry (and its
| history), sporting aircraft from the Bell 206
| JetRanger and Cessna 172 to the supersonic
| SR-71 and the Space Shuttle.

ATI Linux & X-Plane: It Works

,----[ Quote ]
| X-Plane is marketed as the "most thorough, flexible, and realistic flight
| simulator available for personal computers" and ships not only for Windows
| and Macintosh platforms but also for Linux. Laminar Research produces X-Plane
| and while it's currently not part of our testing suite, we recently took
| X-Plane v9 Beta 18 for a test flight. Previously their community leader had
| classified using ATI Linux drivers with X-Plane as an "unusable disaster"
| with "insurmountable problems", but is that really the case? We explored the
| situation in this article.

FlightGear takes off

,----[ Quote ]
| FlightGear is a multiplatform, GPLed flight simulator. It is
| sophisticated, realistic, and extensible. You can choose to fly
| more than 100 different aircraft, ranging from a Sopwith Camel to a UFO,
| you can take off and land from thousands of airports, and you can fly over
| virtually any terrain in the world. After 10 years of development, it has
| suddenly become a very hot item. How hot? You may have seen it used
| recently on prime time TV and not realized it. It was used in an episode of
| Fox TV's legal drama Justice to prove pilot error in the fatal crash of a
| private plane.
