I imagined that at some point, when Thunderbird becomes wide-spread,
Palm would incorporate its conduits into their software. I guess I must
wait...
This might not help you, or it might. I use IMAP to access my email and
have configured (for selected accounts) VersaMail for Palm to do the
same (direct IMAP access). Works great.
