I am still inclined to favour Open Office.

IIRC , 'tidy' will remove non-standard attributes and will therefore not
guarantee that you maintain the already-fragile state of the Word-genarated
HTML. Open Office gives you cleaner code without breaking/diluting existing
code. If you have experience doing this successfully, however, then I'll
bite my tongue.
