One thing that I've noticed for a some time is that Google expands the
number of results for a given term, then that number shrinks, grows again
and goes round-and-round until that growth becomes permanent. Likewise,
when a new site is indexed, it may come and go before appearing stably.

What is happening physically? Can someone please explain? Is it data
warehouses being out of sync.? It's like an emotional rollercoaster for
those who keep track of results...
