Assuming I get your point right...

Google actually do that sort of tracking using re-directs. I imagine that
they refine their results in this way, which I find inconveniencing. I
sometimes want to search for something in hope of just getting the URL to
post elsewhere. When I try to copy the link from the results page, I get a
Google redirect instead of the actual URL. Consequently, I must follow
through to the site and then grab the address from the address bar of the
browser.

Although Google display the addresses in their results pages, these ad-
dresses are re-formatted to serve as /context/, so they are impartial or
overly fragmented.

Google use just a subset for a sufficiently effective sample size. I sup-
pose that Google's query volume enables them to 'bother' only a few users,
whereas MSN, who are trying to catch up, do this consistently.

Like I said before, that tracking mechanism raises concerns such as momen-
tum. The more you use the search engine, the more you improve it. This
leads to a cycle, which makes Google hard to compete against. Microsoft
are said to have benefited from similar scenarios in the context of soft-
ware.

Yes, it's true. It would have been silly to ignore that as an option for
optimisation. It's autonomous too, in line with machine learning where the
users are merely 'ants' that train the core (indices in this case).
