I doubt it, but it would be nice to get that cleared up one way or
another.
The idea of mono was to provide cross platform portability between
Windows .NET and Linux .NET applications. However, you can also use
mono on a Windows machine, which would release you from the Microsoft APIs.
Mono is only an implemenation of an ECMA standard.
Overall, at this point, I'd say java pretty much "won" in terms of
delivering everything to the customer: speed, easy of use, robust API
implemenation, and, finally, completely open source code.
