|
| One game that hasn't changed is the one in which Microsoft
| airbrushes past pitfalls into great leaps forward.
|
| It took the company five long years to bring out Vista, but
| Thursday's announcement speaks only of the "Most Significant
| Product Launch in Microsoft's History." Similarly, having been
| criticized as slow to embrace the Internet, Microsoft now
| claims to have more or less invented the thing.
|
| "TCP/IP in Windows 95 helped pave the way for the popularization
| of the Internet," the company claims. "Wireless capabilities in
| Windows XP made mobile computing commonplace."
|
| Not half as commonplace as Microsoft hype, though.

You Blew It, Amazon!

| A feeding frenzy was obvious as consumers no doubt kept refreshing
| the Xbox page as 2 p.m. Eastern approached. Amazon must have loved
| the attention but this is a dangerous proposition when you're
| offering something that most visitors aren't going to get.
|
| There is no free lunch. And for most consumers, there is no $100
| Xbox 360 either. As expected, Amazon's user forum has been livid
| with folks whining about not being one of the chosen thousand.
