At least tens of thousands of Solaris admins and engineers have been
rolling GNU/Solaris machines from scratch for years.
In fact, in another life, I wrote a neat little bundle of shellscripts
knit into a utility called the "GNU-ifier" that when run on a Solaris
machine, went and got a basic set of GNU utilities and handy binaries
and installed them while you went off and had a sandwich. To anyone
whos ever had to use sunfreeware.com, this is nothing new at all.
