...Well,  but come to consider Parallels and Boot Camp.  Mac
users  can  finally use Windows and Mac  OS  simultaneously,
which  obviates the need to find another machine (e.g.  for
Web  site  design testing, or even gaming). Linux never  had
this peril, but regardless...

You know what I've been thinking? With Intel's huge discount
on  processors  (announced  last night), as well  as  AMD's,
/cost/  of  software is beginning to show, accentuating  the
value  of  Open  Source  software (and  O/Sen).  If  nothing
changes,  a  complete machine with 'Microsoftware' could  be
worth just a third of the overall cost, i.e. a 2:1 ratio for
software:hardware  expenditure. Oh! Assuming you don't  need
Vista/Aero,  which perhaps is an attempt to overshadow  this
grim reality (for the convicted monopolist).
