I know just what you mean. IIRC, you stick to solid-colour backgrounds. And
while I used to adore brush aluminium about 5 years ago (GNOME and
Enlightenment), I now go for dark shades and simplicity. There is nothing on
my desktop other than the calm background (no icons). All 6 panels
automatically hide and the only visible elements are the pager, kpgp, and
the new mail notifier. Less clutter, less noise. All that is visible must be
related to the task at hand.
