This is a massive leap in itself, and appears to completely fly in the
face of the tivoisation move, or at least, is trying to find a third way
around the problem. NTT and Intel are clearly looking to encourage
business customers perhaps for internal capabilities (FMC and similar),
third-party developers (what about all those GPS companies?), and
interested developers of all kinds, to develop for this phone spec.
I wonder who'll make the phones? Anyway - it looks like a very
interesting development area, and illustrates the kind real innovation
which can take place when you walk away from the "proprietary is the
only way" thinking.
