Rick,

To quote a fragment of an E-mail I sent to Ed this afternoon:

"I joined the group in 2005 and I quickly learned that (at least most of
the) trolls will never let you have the last word. When you reply, you
fuel them. Yet another anti-Linux post will be farted out from their
mouths. Remember: if no-one speaks to them, then lurkers (1300+
subscribers in Google alone, post archives/mirrors and NG servers aside)
will realise that the trolls are unpopular, i.e. not credible. Moreover,
the trolls will lose interest as they enjoy stirring things up.

Nothing angers the trolls more than being ignored. Some of the trolls
whom I never offended hate me with passion because they can't speak to
me. I have killfiled them, which gives me an excuse: no
followups are then no implication of consent. It just means I don't see
them. Disregarding them also gives you time to speak to _real_
advocates, reduce overall 'noise' and thereby invite more new faces.
The posting volume in COLA has grown a lot recently. You have to filter
(at least using a 'mental filter'). Choose the right posts the read and
not only will you enjoy the content, but you will also drive away the
trolls, gradually."

I appreciate your contributions and I hope you appreciate mine. I just wish
you posted some of your well-phrased, pro-Linux arguments in response to
those who do not lie as means of being 'fed'.
