I had a great experience with a microsoft "engineer" once.
He was an actual full microsoft employee, one of those travelling
engineers that runs around installing and configuring Exchange for
medium/large companies.
He showed me how nifty exchange was (after I made him turn on the
IMAP option so I could connect to it with Pine---he was not happy
about this at all), and how great their new, super reliable Backup
was. Here, he said, just press this button and it will generate
a full backup of the entire system for you.
I said, "great! well, lets test it. At 11pm I'll shut off email
and take a backup, then I'll delete all the email and you can show
me how to recover with this cool backup system!"
He really thought I was going to do it, because he turned white,
and stammered about how that wasn't really a good idea, lets not
be to hasty, etc. Yeah. I told him that I know for a fact that
exchange backups were NOT reliable, and just asked him to show
me how to dump the database so I could have IBM's Tivoli back
it up instead.
