OOXML suffered a big blow yesterday. It's approval/rejection was deferred.. 3
months in fact... and it could altogether be conceded as a result. There's
still some sanity (and justice) in the world. Maybe.

*Bug are part of the 'standard'
*Undocumented bits
*A 'history lesson' (old versions lead to exceptions)
*Proprietary 'extensions'
*Contradictions
*Excessive length
*What else?

OOXML is a candidate 'standard' written to fit some mature and somewhat messy
(inconsistent) code, rather than a standard that several vendors will
implement. It's a monopoly enabler, intended to leave everyone behind to
catch up.

The Open XML Lie

| The basic premise of Rob's article was that the Microsoft Open
| XML Specification was similar to creating a job description
| that would allow for only one qualified respondent. Such a
| job description might read as follows:
|
| * 5 years experience with Java, J2EE and web development, PHP, XSLT
| * Fluency in French and Corsican
| * Experience with the Llama farming industry
| * Mole on left shoulder
| * Sister named Bridgette
